Dr. Peña is a native Texan, originally from a small ranch town in South Texas.   She has been working as a dermatologist in the Hays County area for the last three years and is excited to join the Southwest team in Buda to continue to provide high quality care to her patients.

Dr. Peña attended Rice University in Houston and graduated with Honors with a degree in Biology.  She then attended and graduated from Harvard Medical School in Boston, where she also completed a telemedicine fellowship at the Center for Connected Health at Massachusetts General Hospital.

She completed an internship in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia and then went on to complete her dermatology residency at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan.  During her dermatology residency she ran the first telemedicine pilot at Henry Ford.  While in residency she was also awarded the Peter Coggan, M.D. Teaching Award, which is only granted to one out of over a hundred residents.

Dr. Pena’s dedication to teaching and education is one of her passions.  She is a volunteer faculty member in the dermatology department at Dell Medical School, where she teaches residents and helps staff their patients at CommUnity Care on Wednesday mornings.   She has also authored numerous scientific articles in notable medical journals.

In addition to the treatment and prevention of skin cancer, Dr. Peña also has an interest in complex medical dermatologic diseases and has specific expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, vitiligo and severe atopic dermatitis.

Dr. Peña loves living near the Texas Hill Country and during her spare time enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband hiking, paddle boarding and hanging out on the lake.  She also loves to cook and spend time with her family.  She has two small dogs (a dachshund and chiweenie) that she loves dearly and is currently training them for the Buda wiener dog races!
